The Sea Bass and Sea Bream Industry
About
Turkey is currently leading the sea bass and sea bream aquaculture industry with 160.000 tons of production capacity and this capacity is expected to reach 250.000 tons by 2025.
Processing Costs
Compared to their competitor countries, Turkey has lower license, management, and labor costs.
They have also successfully incorporated the latest technology into their operations and aggressively accumulated aquaculture and processing know-how for the last 15 years.
Strong domestic market and ever-growing demand of Europe has helped the Turkish producers along the growth process.
Value Added Production Capabilities
The Turkish sea bass and sea bream industry advanced significantly in manual filleting, IQF and ready to cook product categories, especially after the pioneering activities of HTF team between 2008-2015.
The fast volume growth of the industry has resulted in value added products, custom prepared for major European customers in the last 10 years.
Product Quality
A small percentage of Turkish bass and bream production has superior attributes over other European products with:
-
Higher Omega-3 due to high fresh anchovy content in the feed formula
-
Longer shelf life with improved texture due to electrical stunning and usage of cold water during the harvest.
The aquaculture sites in Turkey are very close to the related processing plants, improving the quality of the filleting and IQF operations.
All producers that HTF work in line with the packaging and processing requirements of international quality certificated, BRC and IFS.
